Services:  Penquis has a variety of services based on the needs of particular passengers. General Public Transportation Services do not have eligibility requirements while other Penquis programs do. Calling the main number will connect you with a staff member who can help you determine which program may be best for you and whether you meet eligibility requirements. The Penquis programs are listed below:

General Public Transportation Services. This Penquis service is available for any type of transportation need you have, whether it is visiting friends, going shopping, or going to the bank or post office. This service is available in each town in Penobscot and Piscataquis County at least once a week.

  • Eligibility: This service is open to anyone.
  • Cost: Fees depend on where you start and where your destination is.

 

Ride to Wellness. This Penquis service provides transportation or mileage reimbursement for medical treatment of breast cancer from diagnostic services to support groups. Mileage reimbursement of 21 cents per mile is available to individuals who are driving themselves or to friends and family who are giving rides.

  • Eligibility: Individuals in need of diagnostic services for breast cancer or who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. There is no income requirement.
  • Cost: Free

 

Access to Cancer Care.  This Penquis program provides transportation assistance, including mileage reimbursement for those who are going through any aspect of medical treatment for cancer.

  • Eligibility: Individual has been diagnosed with cancer. Lives in Penobscot or Piscataquis County. Program eligibility is not based on income.
  • Cost: Free

 

New Freedom.  This Penquis program helps people with disabilities access transportation. Costs 2.50 each way

  • Eligibility: Available for individuals with disabilities in Bangor, Brewer, Old Town, Hampden, Orono, or Veazie who are more than ¾ of a mile from the fixed route of the City of Bangor’s bus system, the Community Connector.
