Services: The helpline provides free, high quality legal assistance to socially- and economically— needy Maine residents aged 60 and older.  The LSE can answer questions and give legal advice on a wide range of topics over the telephone, speak with others on the person’s behalf, meet with the person, and represent the person in court.  If LSE’s attorneys cannot resolve a matter, they may make a referral to other service providers.

Staff attorneys at the Bangor office of LSE represent older people in matters concerning access to long-term care, physical abuse, financial exploitation, public benefits, evictions, foreclosures, and many other issues.  If extended help is required, people are referred to regional offices.  If clients require representation on issues that LSE does not handle, LSE may refer to private attorneys who charge reduced fees.
